Wedding Ceremony Music: The Basics
| Prelude: |
Prelude music typically begins twenty
to thirty minutes before the processional. This is a
time for guests to be seated, relax and reflect. The
prelude music sets the mood for the ceremony, so many
couples choose to play soothing, peaceful selections
that set a romantic and elegant tone. |
| Processional: |
The processional officially begins
immediately after the mother of the bride is seated. The
processional music is played while the wedding party and
bride walk down the aisle. Often, the couple will select
one song to be played during the entrance of the wedding
party, followed by a special song selected to begin just
before the bride and her father begin down the aisle. |
| Interlude: |
Vocalists and/or instrumentalists may
perform at various points in the ceremony, such as the
lighting of the unity candle or a time of reflection or
prayer. Talk to your officiate about where such
interludes are to be incorporated. It is important to
select appropriate songs that have special meaning for
you. |
| Recessional:
|
The recessional music begins
immediately after the bride and groom have been
announced as husband and wife. The recessional continues
as the entire wedding party exits. This
music should be very joyous and upbeat. |
| Postlude: |
After the wedding party has exited,
postlude music begins.
This music should continue until all the guests have
left the ceremony site. Ten to twenty minutes worth of
lively music will keep your guests moving out and on to
the reception in a celebratory mood. |
